So, I had a book launch…

To be honest, I’d been semi dreading having a book launch. Being the centre of attention isn’t something I’m comfortable with, despite being a teacher for the past 30 years, which sort of puts you at the front of the room on a regular basis. But somehow, a book launch struck me as being more akin to a wedding than a classroom situation, and the thought of playing the role of bride for the day has only ever filled me with something akin to horror. So as I organised invitations and confirmed venue etc, I did so with a decided feeling of fatalism – this was something to be endured, not enjoyed. I just had to get through it.

But, I had the best night!

Being in a room full of people who have supported me in my personal and writing journeys over the years, all there to celebrate the launch of this story, which has been with me for such a loooong time, was unexpectedly wonderful. And when I put it like that, why wouldn’t it have been? I don’t know what I’d been so worried about. The evening was full of warmth, love and positive energy, and I couldn’t have enjoyed it any more than I did. So, massive thanks to everybody who came and made it so special.

Now it’s time to face the day to day realities of the publishing game and crack on with making the marriage work. I know it’s not going to be easy; publishing is tough and my publisher is tiny, so there’s a challenge ahead of us. But here’s to trying our damnedest to get this book out there, read, and positively reviewed.

Also, here’s to getting on with the next one.

The Bycatch Principle is available online from Amazon or Hermitage Press, and can be ordered via bookshops, some of which should have it in stock but all of which can request it for you. Don’t be shy about popping along to your local library for a copy either, as they can order it in for you too. If you do read The Bycatch Principle, I hope you enjoy it. And if you do enjoy it, I hope you tell the world that, while passing it along to your friends.
